39 Medal Tests Danced

38 Honours, 1 Highly Commended 

Whangarei dancer Mary Evans scored an impressive honours pass for all three of her dancing medal tests during Ballroom and Latin American medal tests conducted in December for InStep Dance Studio pupils by Federal Association of Dance Teachers Examiner Maurice Taylor, of Auckland. Her marks were 96 for Jive, 95 for Cha Cha Cha, 93 for Samba, and 94 for Rumba in her Silver Bar Latin American test. For the three dances in her Advanced Bronze New Vogue test she was awarded 96, 95, 94, and her Silver Bar Ballroom test gained her marks of 95 for Quickstep, 94 for Foxtrot, 94 for Waltz, and 90 for Tango.

Running a close second were Misty Pearce and Virginia Stanaway. Virginia was awarded 95 for Jive and 95 for Rumba in her Elementary Gold Latin American test, and Misty 95 for Rumba, 95 for Cha Cha cha, and 95 for Jive in her Advance Bronze Latin American test.

Out of a total of 39 tests danced up to gold level, 38 honours passes and 1 highly commended pass were awarded.

The Whangarei dance studio, run by Chris and Anne Leitch, has an enviable record – 98.4 percent of the 766 medal tests danced over the last 5 years have passed with either an honours or highly commended pass.

The adjudicator, Mr Maurice Taylor is a former world top 10 professional competitor, and Fellow and Examiner of the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing.

Mr Taylor said he was very impressed with the high standard of dancing and this showed the quality of training the candidates had received.
